RUPERT, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — One Minico senior will travel 2,000 miles to pursue her collegiate dreams.
Minico’s Jakoby May will be hooping for Corning Community College in New York next year.
“Wow, it feels real now. I’ll be playing college ball next year,” May told KMVT. “I wasn’t nervous to sign until this morning but all my friends and family here for me has been exciting.”
She entertained the thought of playing basketball at the beginning of her junior year.
Her parents and she sat down and decided to make it happen.
They connected with the NCSA (Next College Student Athlete) College Recruiting.
NCSA is the largest college athletic recruiting platform, with over 40,000 college coaches using NCSA to find athletes across 31 sports.
“I got to talk with so many coaches and teams, which helped me truly figure out what I wanted,” May said.
Corning reached out to her, and the rest is history.
“I really enjoyed the school, and the area reminded me of home,” May explained. “The girls were nice and I know the team will take care of me away from home.”
May helped Minico to two Great Basin Championships and two appearances at the state tournament.
