The spring NFL owners meetings in Palm Beach, Florida, are under way, and we have our first/latest Aaron Rodgers nugget.
“We had a really productive day,” Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said of Rodgers’ visit with the team on March 21. “He’s been in this thing a long time. I’ve been in this thing a long time. But there’s no substitute for intimacy and spending time together and getting to know one another in a non-competitive environment, so that was really good. But I don’t have any new updates in terms of where the process is. We’ll see where it leads us.”

Rodgers also reportedly had a throwing session with new star Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf over the weekend.
Everyone is waiting to see if Rodgers ends up in Pittsburgh, which is really the last sensible spot for Rodgers if he wants to start for a playoff contender. The Minnesota Vikings could still be an option if they don’t sign another veteran quarterback to either challenge J.J. McCarthy for the starting spot or mentor him as a backup, but that might not be a waiting game either Rodgers or the Vikings want to play out fully.
Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson reported that compensatory draft picks could be in play in why the Vikings haven’t added a veteran backup to their lineup yet. Per Robinson:
That deadline traditionally comes in May. Maybe that player will be Rodgers, once he doesn’t count against a future comp pick for the franchise. Maybe it will be one of several veterans who are still on the market and can provide the ability to support McCarthy and start some games in a pinch.
So we continue to wait for Rodgers to make a decision. He and wide receiver Amari Cooper are the last available names on Yahoo Sports Senior NFL Writer Frank Schwab’s top 25 free agents list.
