NHL Ted Lindsay Award 2025 stats
Speaking of which, let’s look at the other two finalists for the Lindsay Award too. One of them is MacKinnon, the Colorado Avalanche forward who won both the Hart and Lindsay last year – but this year has only made the top three among his peers, not the writers.
His 116 points trailed only Kucherov’s total, and he tied the Lightning forward for the league lead in assists. While his per-60 stats don’t read as good – 0.67 goals and 1.69 assists every 60 minutes of ice time – he did help the Avalanche to 102 points, third in the Central Division, and had a +25 plus/minus across the season.
You might say that he was maybe upstaged by the third finalist for this year’s Lindsay Award, his teammate Makar. From the blue line, Makar converted 12.2 per cent of all his shots into goals (MacKinnon, who only scored two more goals than Makar, had a shooting percentage of 10.1). Makar’s 1.73 points per 60 minutes led all NHL defencemen who played at least 25 games in that stat, and he also racked up a +28 plus/minus.
Given those impressive offensive numbers from a defenceman, perhaps it’s no surprise other players in the league took notice.
It’s important to note that all voting was conducted prior to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and based only on regular-season performances, so the early first-round exits for the Lightning and Avalanche have no impact on who wins either award.
