4 Yellow Jackets commit to play college baseball

MOUNT VERNON — Four Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets baseball players recently penned their respective commitments to play at the collegiate level during a ceremony at the Energy Fieldhouse.

Seniors Kayden Packard, Ezra Kurek, Zac Clow, and Jagger Dohn will finish their high school careers this spring before taking their talents to the next level.

Mount Vernon Athletic Director Jason Sanford lauded the recruits for being part of the “2 percent of high school student-athletes nationwide who are awarded athletic scholarships.”

Packard, a pitcher and third baseman, will play for Walsh University.

Kurek, a catcher, committed to Eastern Michigan University.

Zac Clow, shortstop, will play for Mount St. Joseph College.

Jagger Dohn, pitcher and first baseman, will join the Tiffin University squad.

“These four guys have set the standard of what it takes to be successful. The amount of work that they put in even when no one is watching is what makes them special,” Mount Vernon baseball coach Nate Hunt said.

“These four seniors are going to reap the benefits of all their hard work very soon, and I cannot wait to get started with them. Not only do these four guys work extremely hard, but they bring so much personality and joy every day that as a coach, I could not ask for anything more.”

Last season, Hunt led the Jackets to the Ohio Cardinal Conference baseball title. Mount Vernon will return to action April 1 in a home game against Pickerington Central in what figures to be a promising season.
