2. Primetime in back-to-backs
With Week 1 being in Brazil, that means the rest of the Chargers schedule is split up eight home games and eight on the road.
The Chargers have a pair of back-to-back games at home throughout the season.
The first is Weeks 7 (Colts) and 8 (Vikings), followed by Weeks 13 (Raiders) and 14 (Eagles).
The irony there? Both of the final games on those two-game stretches are in primetime.
The Bolts host the Vikings on Thursday Night Football in Week 8, which means they get a mini bye just before the halfway point of the season.
The Chargers game against the Eagles is then on Monday Night Football in Week 14.
An interesting fact: the Chargers will play their first-ever primetime games against Minnesota and Philadelphia this season.
Let’s hope the Chargers have some home cooking up their sleeve for the bright lights in primetime.
3. Welcoming the champs
The toughest game on the Chargers home slate? That one likely belongs in Week 14 against the Eagles.
Add in the fact that this one is on Monday Night Football and all eyes will be on this potential slugfest.
Philadelphia has crafted a simple yet effective formula for success in recent years: dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
Sound familiar? Yes, that is exactly what Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh is looking to build here in Southern California.
This will be a great litmus test for the Bolts to see where they stand against the league’s elite teams.
As for recent history, the Chargers have faced the defending Super Bowl champs the following season 17 times since the 2000 Ravens and are 8-9 in such games. The Bolts were at home in 10 of those 17 games, with five being on primetime.
Four out of those five primetime games against the defending champions were on Sunday Night Football and one was on Thursday Night Football, meaning the one versus the Eagles will the first on Monday night.
They are 3-2 against defending champs on primetime and played three out of those five primetime games at home.
