The NBA have officially unveiled
the new all-star format for this year’s All-Star Game after rumors
of it swirling a few weeks back.
The 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend is
set to happen in the San Francisco Bay Area, home of the Golden
State Warriors.
The traditional all-star game
format will now be replaced and will feature a mini-tournament –
similar to a pick-up game – with 4 teams each. 3 teams will be
featuring the 24 NBA All-Star selections (12 from each conference)
composed of 8 players each. The 4th team will be the Castrol Rising
Stars champion, consisting of the best young and upcoming talents
in the league today.
The 3 NBA All-Star teams will be
drafted by team GMs Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny
Smith. Their teams will then be named Team Charles, Team Shaq, and
Team Kenny respectively. Candace Parker will be the GM of the Team
Candace, the Castrol Rising Stars Champions.
The NBA All-Star Draft for Team
Charles, Team Shaq, and Team Kenny will be broadcasted live on
February 6, Thursday, on TNT.
The Mini-Tournament will be
composed of 3 games; 2 teams will meet in 1 semifinal game and the
remaining two teams will meet in the other semifinal game. The two
winning teams will meet in the championship game.
For each game, the winner will
be the first team to reach or surpass 40 points. Similar to the
Rising Stars format over the past few years, there will be no time
limit.
The NBA 2025 All-Star
Game/Mini-Tournament will be on February 16, 8 P.M ET on
TNT.
