Hayden Willett, a senior, signed Dec. 13 to play for Asbury, an NCAA Division III school in Wilmore.

On Wednesday, Elizabethtown Independent Schools announced the death of a high school student.

In a statement, Superintendent Paul Mullins confirmed the death, saying the district was “heartbroken.”

“This is a tragedy that has deeply affected our school and community, and our thoughts are with the family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” Mullins said in the statement.

Mullins did not identify the student but noted they were a senior.

“Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing any additional details at this time,” Mullins said in the statement.
