WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Head Baseball Coach Edwin Thompson has announced the hiring of Charles Bolden for the 2024-25 season. Bolden will serve as the recruiting coordinator/baserunning coordinator.
“It is a great day for Georgetown baseball as we are adding an experienced coach, talented teacher and even better person in Charles Bolden. He is someone I have known for over 10 years, and I have seen him grow and build a program at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire before taking on a challenging role in the minor leagues. He has coached at every level which will allow him to impact our players on a daily basis. His success last year in the Orioles organization is something I am looking forward to adding to our program. I am excited to have Charles join our staff and we want to welcome him and his family to the Hilltop!” – Head Coach Edwin Thompson
“‘I’m excited to come to Georgetown and help continue the success that Coach Thompson has built! It is my honor to be a part of this amazing staff and community and I am excited to be on the Hilltop and I can’t wait to get to work! Hoya Saxa!” – Recruiting Coordinator Charles Bolden
Bolden joins the Hoya staff after spending the last year working within the Baltimore Orioles organization as a Minor League Fundamentals Coach. Bolden worked with the High-A Aberdeen IronBirds and served as the base running, first base and outfield coach. Under Bolden’s leadership, the IronBirds set a franchise/Southern Athletic League record for stolen bases in a single game (10) and set the MiLB stolen base record in the statcast era with 363 stolen bags in 132 games. Bolden played a pivotal role in coaching Enrique Bradfield Jr. to an MiLB Rawling Gold Glove in 2024.
Prior to joining the Orioles organization, Bolden was the head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Before his role at Eau Claire, Bolden served as the associate coach at the NCAA Division III Illinois Tech where he was instrumental in boosting the team’s offensive performance, helping set single-season school records in home runs and stolen bases.
In the spring of 2021, Bolden was named as a scout and coach for USA Baseball’s Midwest Region and National Team Identification series.
Bolden also spent time at Chicago State University where he focused on improving the team’s offensive output. At CSU, Bolden helped improve the team’s power metrics, home runs, RBIs and slugging percentage.
Before his collegiate years, Bolden played at Oak Park and River Forest High School. The native of Oak Park, Illinois and his wife Claire, have two children.
