Marquette moves up one spot in AP and USA TODAY men’s college basketball rankings

The Marquette men’s basketball team started Big East play with two victories, and the Golden Eagles have moved up a notch in the national polls.

MU (11-2, 2-0) checked in at No. 8 in the Associated Press top 25 that was released on Monday, up one spot from last week.

The Golden Eagles were also eighth in the USA TODAY rankings.

Who did Marquette play last week?

MU opened Big East play on Wednesday with an 80-70 victory over Butler despite frigid three-point shooting at Fiserv Forum.

Then on Saturday, the Golden Eagles survived a late scare to edge Xavier, 72-70, at Cintas Center in Cincinnati.

MU last won its first two Big East games in the 2012-13 season.

Who does Marquette play this week?

MU doesn’t have a game this week, with its players scattering back to their hometowns for a holiday break.

The Golden Eagles will return to campus on Dec. 26, then start preparations for their game on New Year’s Eve at Providence.
