Exactly a month ago, Arizona State Sun Devils star running back Cam Skattebo rushed 28 times for 147 yards with three touchdowns as the Sun Devils beat the BYU Cougars, 28-23.
Though that was the first time Skattebo played against BYU, he met a former Cougar player long, long before that.
On Monday, Skattebo’s mother Becky posted a photo on X of her son when he was young with former BYU wide receiver Austin Collie, who played five years in the NFL after his college days were over.

Collie signed the photo, wrote “To Cameron” and included his jersey number, 17.
“Back when it was all just a little kid with a dream. Shaking that little guys hand or taking a photo with him could change the path of his life. IT’S FREE TO Gift THE LOVE OF THE GAME,” Becky Skattebo wrote on her post Monday, adding that it was her son and Collie in the photo.
It’s unclear exactly when or where the photo was taken, but Cam Skattebo and Collie — who are more than 16 years apart in age — both grew up near Sacramento, California.
While Collie was one of the best receivers in the country in 2008 at BYU, Cam Skattebo was one of the best running backs in the nation this season and finished fifth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy.
This wasn’t the first positive BYU-related post on X from Becky Skattebo this season. On Nov. 25, she quoted a video of Cougars head coach Kalani Sitake speaking after the BYU-ASU game two days prior and wrote, “Much respect for this coach. Was very nice of him to approach my son on the way to the locker room after the game and shake his hand and compliment him. Seems like a great guy.”
While that game went a long way in knocking BYU out of College Football Playoff contention, ASU is now in the CFP and will face Texas next Wednesday in the Peach Bowl.
