All-American defensive end Mikail Kamara is returning to Indiana

All-American defensive end Mikail Kamara is returning to Indiana, he announced.

The 6-foot-1, 265-pound defensive end has one year of college eligibility remaining.

He joins All-American linebacker Aiden Fisher in announcing his return to Indiana after helping the Hoosiers to a school-record 11 wins (11-2) and College Football Playoff berth.

Kamara was a Third Team All-American selection by The Associated Press, and is the first IU defensive lineman to be named All-American since Greg Middleton in 2007.

Kamara led the Power-4 in total quarterback pressures during the regular season, according to Pro Football Focus

At the end of the regular season, Kamara was named First Team All-Big Ten by both the coaches and the media.

A transfer from James Madison, Kamara’s regular-season stats and rankings are as follows:

Finalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy … Ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten in sacks (10.0) and tackles for loss (15.0) … Started all 12 games … Totaled 44 total tackles with multiple tackles in 11 of 12 games … Season sack total ranks tied for No. 5 on the IU single-season charts with Adewale Ogunleye (10.0; 1997) … Posted the first double-digit sacks by a Hoosier since Jamie Kirlew in 2008 (10.5) … Posted a tackle for loss in nine of 12 games in 2024 and 30 of 35 career games … Forced two fumbles and recovered three fumbles … Finished atop the Big Ten and No. 2 in the Power 4 in total pressures (64) per Pro Football Focus.

“I think it all starts for me, it’s just playing this game with so much joy and passion, right. Once you start from there, you know, you run out of the tunnel, you’re screaming and excited and get your team pumped up,” Kamara said after earning All-American honors.

“Those key plays, fourth and shorts, goal lines, that’s when you’re like, I have to muster up and bring up whatever demons I need to attack these offensive linemen. But it starts with having fun and understanding that this game can be taken away from you at any moment. So you have to go out there and play every single play like it’s your last.”
