Sorting the Sunday Pile, Week 18: Season-long grades for every NFL team from Lions’ A+ down to Jets’ F-

The 2024 NFL season FLEW BY. I realize it’s the same length every year, but, man, did it feel like it moved quickly. Here we are, heading into the playoffs with only a reasonable number of teams we actually expected to see in the bracket.

Every year it’s the same: expectations are really high for like 80% of the league, and some teams are going to meet those and some will even exceed those. But the reality is only a handful of teams actually make the dance (although it’s almost half the league at this point) and as a result, there will be — and already has been — widespread change at the top of organizations around the NFL.

During the season, my colleague John Breech hands out grades for every single team’s performance in every single game. This week, instead of trying to focus on the biggest storylines coming out of a weird week (some teams play starters, some don’t, some are motivated to try hard, many are not), I figured why not dole out grades for every single NFL team for the entirety of their season.

Let’s be clear: expectations matter. If a team was projected to be a playoff team and was a complete Hindenburg, they’re not going to get a good grade. If a team looked like it was going to be bad but put together a decent season or showed some promise for the future, they’ll get a higher grade.
