Justin Verlander is joining the San Francisco Giants on a one-year, $15 million contract, according to multiple reports.
The three-time Cy Young Award winner is coming off of his worst year as he enters the 20th season of his major league career.
Velander, 41, started last season with the Astros on the injured list with shoulder inflammation and made his 2024 debut on April 19. He ended up posting a 8.01 ERA after being limited to 17 starts with shoulder and neck injuries.
Verlander joined the Mets before the 2023 season on a two-year, $86.7 million contract but was traded to the Astros at the deadline that summer.
Over his nearly two-decade career, Verlander is 262-147 with a 3.30 ERA. He made his Mets debut in early May that year after starting the year on the injured list and posted a 6-5 record and 3.15 ERA in 16 starts.
His deal with the Mets included a vesting option, and at the time of his tradeNew York agreed to pay $25 million of his salary in 2024 and half of his $35 million salary in 2025. But he failed to trigger the option when he did not pitch 140 innings in 2024.
