Exactly one year to the day that he announced the end of his college coaching career, former Alabama head coach Nick Saban was named to the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class.
Saban was informed of his induction on the set of ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Friday night ahead of the College Football Playoff semifinal between Ohio State and Texas. He reacted with a look of shock on his face.
“Thank you so much,” Saban said on ESPN. “But anytime anything like this happens it’s because you had a lot of great people in your organization. A lot of great people, a lot of great coaches, a lot of great support staff, and they made a great team. And I was happy to drive the bus, but we had some great people on it.”
The legendary coach won six of his seven national titles with the Crimson Tide, more than any other coach in the history of the sport. Saban also won 11 SEC championships and one MAC championship. His resume has him considered to be the greatest college coach of all time
Over 17 seasons as the Alabama head coach, Saban amassed a 201-29 record with six national titles, nine SEC championships and helped produce the school’s first four Heisman trophy winners and dozens of first round NFL draft picks. Since retiring in January, Saban has worked as an analyst for ESPN.
Saban also had head-coaching stops on the collegiate level at Toledo, Michigan State and LSU. He is already a member of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. Saban was the first member announced from the 2025 class and will be inducted in a ceremony in Las Vegas on Dec. 9.
