Former Illinois punter from El Paso finds new college football home from transfer portal

Declan Duley has found a new college football home.

The former Illinois redshirt freshman punter announced Jan. 10 on social media that he has transferred to Central Michigan in order to utilize his final three years of eligibility. Duley, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound El Paso-Gridley graduate, entered the NCAA transfer portal on Dec. 9.

“FIRE UP CHIPS,” he posted to personal X.com account @DeclanDuley.

Duley made his lone appearance of the 2024 season as the extra-point holder for three touchdowns as Illinois beat South Carolina, 21-17, in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve.

As a senior, Duley, who was the nation’s No. 1-ranked punter in the Class of 2023, was a Journal Star all-area selection, punting 26 times for a 38.3 average with a long of 64 yards. He made 29-of-30 extra points and hit a 52-yard field during El Paso-Gridley’s 2022 season.
