Another week causes more shakeups in the men’s college basketball rankings, once again putting teams in new spots after they collect some big wins.
As many know, the top teams, especially the No. 1 team, have never been consistently ranked throughout this season.
With teams joining and dropping in the top 25 and a new No. 1 team, here is what to know about this week’s rankings.
Auburn In As The New No. 1
- With two tough road wins over Texas and South Carolina, the Auburn Tigers are the newest team to slide into the No. 1 spot in the latest rankings.
- Tennessee, the former No. 1 team, lost its spot after getting destroyed by now No. 5 Florida, 73-43 on the road to record its first loss of the season, after only scoring 15 points in the first half
Will The National Championship Return To The SEC?
- Aside from UConn, which deserves respect for winning the title in the last two seasons, the SEC owns nine of the top 25 teams. It is fair to ask whether a team from the conference will win the national championship.
- If it were to happen, it would be the first time that an SEC team has won the national title since Kentucky in 2012
- The way this season has gone for the conference, there is no question that this will be one of the best years to get it done.
Three New Teams Break Into The Top 25
- After massive wins over tough conference opponents, Georgia, which earned both wins over ranked teams Wisconsin and Baylor, is now the three new teams in the rankings.
