College Basketball Invitational announces 2025 return to Daytona Beach

It’s become an annual tradition.

For the fifth consecutive year, the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) will return to Daytona Beach. The postseason tournament will take place March 22-26 at the Ocean Center, the Gazelle Group, the event’s producer, announced Wednesday.

It will be the 17th iteration of the tournament. It’s a single-elimination bracket filled with 16 Division I men’s basketball programs that did not make the NCAA Tournament.

“Daytona Beach is a great destination,” Gazelle Group President Rick Giles said in a news release. “It has become the perfect home for the CBI, as teams experience spirited postseason competition and can also enjoy staying right on the beach.”

Before moving to Volusia County due to COVID in 2021, the CBI was held on the campuses of participating schools.

In last year’s finals, Seattle defeated High Point 77-67 to capture the championship.

Local squad Bethune-Cookman also competed in the event. It fell to Arkansas State 86-85 in a first-round thriller. Stetson made an appearance two years ago.

“The CBI provided our young core players with valuable postseason experience in 2022,” said Dusty May, former coach of 2022 CBI participant Florida Atlantic, in the release. “I’m a firm believer that experience helped catapult our program to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.”

Tickets will go on sale Monday. They can be purchased on ticketmaster.com or at the Ocean Center box office on game days.
