Texas A&M baseball honors Hayden Schott with No. 12 jersey for 2025 season

The worst kept Texas A&M baseball secret is now officially official. Graduate senior outfielder/designated hitter Hayden Schott will wear the No. 12 jersey for the 2025 college baseball season, the Aggies announced Friday.

Since hiring its former head coach, Jim Schlossnagle, ahead of the 2022 season, A&M has honored a player with the No. 12 jersey annually. Former Aggie players Troy Claunch (2022), Austin Bost (2023) and Ryan Targac (2024) previously received the 12th Man-inspired honor.

For first-year A&M head coach Michael Earley, Schott made sense as No. 12. Like Claunch, Bost and Targac were at the time, Schott is entering his final season of collegiate eligibility. He also has served as one of the key leaders and standout players for the Aggies since joining them.

Schott transferred from Columbia to A&M before last season and immediately made an impact. Despite playing part of last season with a torn meniscus in his knee, which required surgery, Schott led the Aggies with a .335 batting average. He also produced a .418 on-base percentage.498 slugging percentage, 15 doubles, eight home runs and 34 walks. That production helped A&M reach the College World Series Final before falling to Tennessee.

In his final season, Schott could have a prime opportunity to help lead the Aggies to their first-ever national championship in baseball. A&M received the top spot in two of the most prominent preseason Top 25 polls: D1 Baseball and Perfect Game.

The Aggies will open the season with a three-game home series against Elon, beginning on Feb. 14 (6 p.m.) in Blue Bell Park.
