There are over 300 players who entered the NCAA Transfer Portal across Southeastern Conference teams, but not all of those players are equal. Some of them are walkons or scholarship players who never really played a significant role, and some are all-conference players at major programs.
South Carolina, under fourth-year head coach Shane Beamer, had 16 players who went into the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason. Only three of those players, however, were in the two-deep when the team concluded the regular season against Clemson and all three of those were backups.
This particular season, the Gamecocks didn’t get hit too hard by attrition through the NCAA Transfer Portal. So many players wanted to stay locked in with the program and there have been approximately 30 deals with The Garnet Trust publicly announced. While graduation and the NFL Draft will take double-digit starters from the Gamecocks, the portal did not.
Many of the teams that South Carolina will play next season lost a lot of players from the two-deep to the NCAA Transfer Portal. The Gamecocks will face eight SEC teams next season and those teams lost an average of eight players to the portal from the two-deep, with 13 being the most and four being the fewest.
Here’s a breakdown of how many players from the school’s final regular season two-deep left the program to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
