Victor Wembanyama’s NBA homecoming in Paris this week got off to a rousing start with a performance he called “perfect,” and one befitting a significant moment for him and French basketball. Wembanyama delivered 30 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and five blocks in the San Antonio Spurs’ 140-110 win over the Indiana Pacers on Thursday, and now comes the potential for an encore to his adoring fans.
The Spurs (20-22) face Indiana meet for the second time in three days on Saturday as part of the 2025 NBA Paris Games, which this year has become a showcase for Wembanyama’s rising star. The atmosphere inside Accor Arena will once again create a raucous environment favoring the Spurs because of their 7-foot-3 center.
The Pacers (24-20) entered Thursday’s game with an 8-1 record since the calendar turned to 2025 and got a team-high 24 points from Bennedict Mathurin. But the Spurs’ Devin Vassell and Harrison Barnes out-played Pacers stars Pascal Siakam and Tyrese Haliburton, particularly in the second half, and San Antonio shot better than 60% from the field.
The betting markets suggest the rematch should produce a closer game. The circumstances, with Wembanyama playing one last time this season in front of his French fans, set the stage for more than the typical NBA regular-season game. “The Pacers split their games against Victor Wembanyama last season, so the guess here is that will happen again. The Pacers’ roster is significantly deeper, but Wembanyama’s size and skill change games. … The Pacers will need to make the most out of the minutes Wembanyama is off the floor.”
