Checking in on preseason polls as high as No. 13 (Baseball America), Oklahoma State heads into the 2025 season with the look of a College World Series contender.
The Cowboys roster features some of the most highly coveted prospects for the 2025 MLB draft. These standouts, including Colin Brueggemann and Nolan Schubart, lead Oklahoma State into the season-opening Shriners Children’s Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Oklahoma State joins an impressive field, evident in the strength of the Cowboys’ own docket over the three days at the home of the Texas Rangers.
Oklahoma State Shriners Children’s Schedule
- vs. Clemson – Friday, Feb. 14 at Noon ET
- vs. Louisville – Saturday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. ET
- vs. Texas – Sunday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. ET
Oklahoma State Baseball Names to Know
Colin Brueggemann
With 14 home runs in 2024, Colin Brueggemann is Oklahoma State’s second-most prolific returning slugger heading into 2025. The 6-foot-6 Brueggemann has the frame of a classic, power-hitting first baseman.
His production in the coming season provides a key cornerstone for the Cowboys offense. Brueggemann could also climb up boards for the MLB draft with improved overall batting numbers.
Gabe Davis
Right-handed pitcher Gabe Davis is a highly touted draft prospect for 2025 for at least one big reason — literally. At 6-foot-9, Davis is as imposing of a figure when he digs into the mound as any hurler in baseball.
Last season, he struck out 55 batters in 45 ⅓ innings pitched, primarily coming out of the Cowboys bullpen.
Jayson Jones
Arkansas transfer Jayson Jones may be he highest potential addition to the Oklahoma State lineup for 2025. Jones provided depth for the Razorbacks in his two seasons in Fayetteville, but showed plenty of upside with four home runs and 17 RBI in just 23 games a season ago.
Jones’ fit in the Oklahoma State lineup will be one of the most intriguing subplots of the Cowboys’ appearance at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown. A new start could provide him with the opportunity to break out after his flashes of brilliance at Arkansas.
Aidan Meola
Among Oklahoma State’s returning hitters, Aidan Meola is one of two coming off of a 1.000-plus OPS season with at least 100 at-bats. He produced a 1.006 commensurate with batting .329 and slugging .590. Of Meola’s 53 hits, 10 were home runs.
Mario Pesca
Oklahoma State’s starting pitching rotation undergoes considerable change in 2025 with last season’s primary starters gone. The Cowboys staff won’t lack for experience, however, with St. John’s transfer Mario Pesca joining.
Pesca went 6-1 in 15 starts for the Red Storm a season ago, maintaining a stellar 2.96 ERA. He struck out 53 and finished with a WHIP of 1.421.
Nolan Schubart
The Shriners Children’s College Showdown marks the beginning of a huge 2025 season for outfielder Nolan Schubart. Schubart ranks among the most intriguing MLB draft prospects of this year’s class for his proven power, coming off a 2024 in which he belted 23 home runs.
Schubart also drove in a team-leading 68 runs while slugging .838 and producing an OPS of 1.351. The hard-hitting Schubart sets the tone for the Cowboys offense, and his efforts leading a push for the College World Series could also solidify him as one of the top choices in the summer’s draft.
Oklahoma State Shriners Children’s Classic Opponents
Clemson
Preseason top 10-ranked Clemson aims for Atlantic Coast Conference championship contention and a possible run to Omaha in 2025. The Tigers feature potential No. 1 overall MLB draft pick Cam Cannarella, standout pitcher Aidan Knaak and all-around playmaker Jarren Purify as pillars for one of the best teams in the nation.
Louisville
A dark-horse team to watch in 2025, Louisville will be eager to make some noise at the expense of the highly ranked competition at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown – including Oklahoma State. The Cardinals return Zion Rose, a breakout star in 2024, and the pitching staff incorporates some transfer talent poised to play key roles.
Texas
Texas may be a member of the Southeastern Conference in 2025, but the Longhorns are familiar foes for Oklahoma State. The Cowboys’ longtime Big 12 rivals and perennial College World Series contenders reload for 2025 with a championship-caliber roster. Buoying Texas in the coming season are Jalin Flores, Max Belyeu and Kimble Schuessler. Incoming Indiana State transfer pitcher Jared Spencer brings experience and impressive career numbers to the Longhorns staff.
