Fantasy Basketball Picks: Top DraftKings NBA Starting 5 DFS Plays for January 31

Stan Son gives his top selections for DraftKings’ NBA Starting 5 for Friday’s six-game slate.

DraftKings, your paradise of DFS nirvana, has done it again with a new contest called NBA Starting 5. You select one point guard, one shooting guard, one small forward, one power forward and one center. There is no salary cap. The only stipulation is that you must select players from at least two different teams.

For Friday’s Starting 5 slate, there are six games.

No team is playing the second leg of a back-to-back.

As for injuries, Al Horford and Josh Green are probable. Immanuel Quickley, Gradey Dick, Jordan Hawkins, Kelly Olynyk, Jamal Shead, Dante Exum, Talen Horton-Tucker, Sam Hauser and AJ Green are questionable. Daniel Theis is doubtful. LaMelo Ball, Paul George, Mark Williams, Zach LaVine and Maxi Kleber are out. Keep track of all the pertinent injury updates at DK Live.

On DraftKings Sportsbook, there are two double-digit favorites: LAC -13.5 over CHA and BOS -10.5 over NOP. There are three games within 3 points: DAL -1 over DET, TOR -2 over CHI and MIL -2.5 over SAS. There are five games with a total of at least 230: DAL/DET (230), DEN/PHI (231.5), CHI/TOR (231.5), BOS/NOP (230.5) and MIL/SAS (230). There is one game with a total below 220: LAC/CHA (214).

Point Guard

Tyrese Maxey has been feasting without Paul George and Joel Embiid in the lineup. The usage rate has been 36% over the last two games and he’s put up at least 50 FPTS in five of the last six games, including 51.5 FPTS against Denver, Friday’s matchup. In the one game he didn’t, Maxey finished with 48 FPTS.

Shooting Guard

The last time Denver and Philadelphia met, the Nuggets won 144-109. Jamal Murray finished with 25.5 FPTS in that one. I’m not expecting a repeat, as this game will be in Philadelphia. Over the last two games, Murray has put up 42 and 52.25 FPTS. Philadelphia has been 29th in defensive rating over the last 10 games.

Small Forward

Scottie Barnes stuffs the stat sheet and is a threat to triple-double on any given night. He’s put up over 50 FPTS in three of the last five games and gets a fantasy-friendly matchup on Friday, as the Bulls are sixth in pace and 22nd in defensive rating over the last 10 games.

Power Forward

Giannis Antetokounmpo has a red Q next to his name, but he is probable for Friday. he has the highest floor/ceiling combo at the position. He’s put up at least 50 FPTS in each of the last six games with three of those over 60 and a high of 72.5 FPTS. The last time he faced San Antonio back in early January, Giannis finished with 58.5 FPTS.

Center

Nikola Jokic has finished with 40 and 39.25 FPTS in two of the last three games. The sky is falling! The sky is falling! He has now failed to score at least 50 FPTS five times on the season. It happens, but if Jokic is on the slate, I’m going to click on his name. More often than not, he’s going to put up the most points at the position, and often on the slate. Jokic has put up over 80 FPTS 10 times this season, with four of those over 90 FPTS.
