Today on Pinstripe Alley

We saw a notable bit of action in the league on Thursday, though it may be more for notoriety than skill at this point. The Blue Jays managed to ink Max Scherzer to a one-year deal, and now we’ll see if the future Hall of Famer has enough left in the tank to help out a Toronto team that has been stuck in no-man’s-land for quite a bit now. The Yankees were tangentially interested in Scherzer, but it felt like a pretty unlikely scenario for them to sign the veteran and now they’ll simply gear up to face him in the AL East instead.

The Yankees may not be making any of these moves, but we’ve kept the hot stove simmering with a full schedule here for you to kickstart your weekend reading. Nick Sarnelli starts us off with a look at your latest answers to our Reacts polling, and then Sam dives into the third base internal candidates as it looks ever more likely that one of them will get the reins. Nick Power continues our tour through the Could Have Been series with a familiar face in Iván Nova, John muses on the artistic feats of the Yankees’ souvenir cups, and then I’ll be back at the end of the day to answer the latest mailbag questions.

Questions/Prompts:

1. Did you want to see Max Scherzer in pinstripes, even at his current age and health, or are you OK with the Blue Jays taking that gamble instead?

2. How’s everyone doing one month into the new year? If you set any goals for 2025, how are they shaping up so far?
