Ex-Mets ace lands with new team

Veteran starter Max Scherzer has come to an agreement on a one-year, $15.5 million deal with the Blue Jays, according to multiple reports.

Toronto bolsters their rotation with the three-time Cy Young award winner and eight-time All-Star.

Scherzer began the 2024 with the Rangers season on the injured list rehabbing from back surgery and made eight starts between June 23 and July 30 before being sidelined again, this time with a shoulder injury. He made one more start that season then was done for the rest of the year with a left-hamstring injury. As he hit free agency this offseason, he profiled as a good short-term option for teams.

Scherzer landed with the Rangers in 2023 via a trade from the Mets as they sold the team at the deadline.

Between the Mets and Rangers in 2023, the three-time Cy Young winner posted a 3.77 ERA and a 1.120 WHIP across 152 2/3 innings.
