Ryan Grubb is Alabama’s new offensive coordinator.
For real, this time.
The former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator is back in the more familiar ranks of college football. Unsurprisingly, he’s going to the University of Alabama to reunite with head coach Kalen DeBoer, who’s worked with Grubb at the University of Washington, Fresno State, Eastern Michigan, and Sioux Falls.

Grubb famously was set to be the Crimson Tide’s OC after DeBoer left the Huskies for Tuscaloosa, only for Grubb to be seen hanging down at Dino’s and eventually becoming the Seahawks offensive coordinator. It is unknown whether or not Nick Sheridan, Alabama’s OC when Grubb left for the Seahawks, will remain on the coaching staff.
There’s no need to rehash the Grubb experience in Seattle because we’ve documented his lone season in the NFL a billion times. We do know that Grubb has a great college track record and that DeBoer could use the help of an old friend after going 9-4 in his first season at Alabama. A 9-4 record at Bama is treated like going 2-11, so DeBoer’s job is arguably already under considerable scrutiny.
One thing to keep an eye on is whether or not Seahawks offensive line coach Scott Huff also goes to Alabama. Huff was set to be Bama’s OL coach and ultimately went with Grubb to Seattle. With new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak in town, it’s more likely than not that additional changes will be made to Seattle’s coaching staff—we already know that to be true of the QBs coach position.
Good luck to Grubb at Bama!
