2025 Schedule Begins New Era for Utah Baseball – University of Utah Athletics

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah Baseball team and head coach Gary Henderson moved one step closer to beginning a new era on Thursday, as the Utes finalized their schedule for the 2025 season. It’ll be the first baseball season for Utah as a member of the Big 12 Conference as the Utes look to build off strong momentum from the 2024 campaign.

As previously announced, the Utes will play their home games at Smith’s Ballpark during the 2025 season. Construction continues on Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark, with the new on-campus home of Utah Baseball set to open for game competition in 2026.

Henderson’s club will begin the season with a four-game series at Pepperdine, visiting Eddy D. Field Stadium from Feb. 14-17. Utah will return to the Golden State for the following three weekends, ultimately gearing up for Big 12 Conference play to begin at Kansas State from March 14-16.

The home slate kicks off with a two-game series against Northern Colorado on March 18-19, before the Utes welcome Oklahoma State to SLC for the first Big 12 home series (March 21-23).

In addition to the Cowboys, Utah will host Arizona State (March 28-30), BYU (April 10-12), Kansas (April 25-27) and TCU (May 15-17) during conference play. Road series in league play will send the Utes to Kansas State (March 14-16), West Virginia (April 4-6), Baylor (April 17-19), Houston (May 2-4) and Arizona (May 9-11).

The BYU and TCU series will restore conference rivalries that brought memorable battles over the years in the WAC and Mountain West, while the Utes are joined in the Big 12 by former Pac-12 foes Arizona and Arizona State.

Among the midweek matchups for Utah are a home-and-home with Utah Tech and Utah Valley. The Utes will also play a road non-conference game at BYU on May 13.

The top 12 teams in the final Big 12 standings will advance to the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship. It runs from May 21-24 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas—the home of the Texas Rangers.

Utah’s 2024 season saw year-to-year growth in virtually every facet. The team’s 33 wins were the second-most in program history and helped the Utes enter the national polls late in the season. The entry into the top-25 for Utah was the first time the program was ranked in any of the five current major polls.

Following the season, three Utes were selected in the 2024 MLB Draft. The trio included right-handed pitcher Merit Jones, who was drafted by the Minnesota Twins but elected to return for his junior season.

Five current members of the Big 12 Conference reached the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The league finished top-three in the NCAA’s RPI rankings the last four seasons, and has sent at least one team to nine of the last 10 Men’s College World Series.
