The Seneca Valley School District announced a former NFL player and class alumnus has taken a position at his old Alma mater as the district’s new head football coach. In a statement, the district said Don Barclay was selected to be the school’s new football coach after the Seneca Valley School Board unanimously voted Monday to appoint him. Barclay, according to the statement, was a member of SV’s Class of 2007 and later spent eight seasons in the NFL.”Seneca Valley has always been home for me,” Barclay said in the statement. “Growing up here gave me opportunities, from the school system itself to the facilities. I’m excited to pass on my knowledge and give back to the place that shaped me.” During his time at Seneca Valley, Barclay was a “multi-sport athlete, playing baseball until ninth grade and basketball through his sophomore year before focusing on football,” the statement said. “His dedication to the sport earned him a scholarship to West Virginia University, where he graduated with a degree in business management.”After his time at West Virginia University, Barclay began his NFL journey, leading him to play for the Green Bay Packers and other teams.Now, the school district said Barclay is excited to start his new journey as Seneca Valley’s new football coach. “Whether it’s improving participation or helping players take the next step in college, it’s about setting a foundation for long-term success,” Barclay said in the statement. Barclay plans to prioritize speed, quickness and agility, alongside a strong emphasis on academics. “Success in the classroom represents success on the field,” he said.
