2025 Ohio State offensive coordinator search: Candidates, hot board, names to watch by Buckeyes experts

USATSI

Already in the midst of a defensive coordinator and offensive line coach search, head coach Ryan Day is now leading the Ohio State offensive coordinator search following Chip Kelly’s decision to return to the NFL as the offensive coordinator of the Las Vegas Raiders. The Buckeyes were spectacular offensively in the College Football Playoff, averaging 36.3 points per game. Now Day will sift through the Ohio State offensive coordinator candidates looking for the best candidate to build on that and maximize the talent of elite receiver Jeremiah Smith next season.

Will Day turn the play-calling duties completely over to Brian Hartline, who had offensive coordinator added to his title before 2023, or go with an external hire? Ohio State offensive coordinator candidates

One potential candidate the team at Bucknuts has identified on its Ohio State offensive coordinator hot board: Neal Brown. He went 72-51 overall in stints as the head coach at both Troy and West Virginia. He also was the offensive coordinator at Troy, Texas Tech and Kentucky. At one point he was viewed as one of the top up-and-coming OCs in college football.

Though he has a background in the Air Raid offense, he adapted at times at West Virginia. In his best season at WVU, 2003, the Mountaineers rushed for nearly 194 yards per game.
