It’s unclear how interested Alex Bregman is in joining the Red Sox, but another star third baseman reportedly really wants to call Boston home.
Nolan Arenado has been attached to the Red Sox in a similar number of rumors as Bregman this MLB offseason. The pair of veterans are in different situations, as Bregman is readily available in free agency while Arenado would need to be acquired via trade.
And according to ESPN’s Bustler Olney, a deal between Boston and St. Louis is something Arenado hopes comes to fruition.
“Given that Nolan Arenado vetoed the potential deal to the Astros, what some of his friends say is important: They think he would really like the idea of going to the Red Sox, if Boston and the Cardinals work out terms,” Olney posted to X on Wednesday. “Arenado’s current mindset: ‘Highly, highly motivated.’”
It’s anyone’s guess if Arenado will receive his reported wish, but MLB Network’s Jon Morosi on Tuesday reported the Red Sox and the Cardinals “have had recent communication” about the 10-time All-Star. The report was filed just one day after Boston president and CEO Sam Kennedy confirmed the club would “love” to add to its roster before Opening Day.

Time will tell if Arenado ends up in a Red Sox uniform. But if he does, he apparently will embrace the opportunity a great deal.
