MLB Rumors: Alex Bregman Steadfast On This Contract Demand

All eyes are on Alex Bregman, and the two-time World Series champion doesn’t seem to budging on his contract demands.

Pete Alonso reportedly left the free agent market after agreeing to return to the New York Mets. Bregman’s signing would put a close on free agency. However, the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays haven’t been able to lock up the 30-year-old.

Bregman is willing to wait things out as he “still has no interest in a short-term contract,” according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale on Thursday. The Gold Glove infielder is seeking a six- or seven-year deal.

The Astros reportedly kept their six-year $156 million deal on the table for Bregman. However, it wasn’t clear if they were willing to budge on their original offer. General manager Dana Brown’s comments this week suggested they were not.

There reportedly is another team that offered Bregman a six-year deal. However, it came from a team that wasn’t high on the veteran’s shortlist.

Boston reportedly is focused on a specific aspect of its Bregman deal. Spring training is around the corner, and things could change in the market with Nolan Arenado also an option for the Red Sox.
