Where Are The 2024 College Baseball Showdown Stars Now?

The College Baseball Showdown returns on Feb. 14 as some of the top programs in the country travel to Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas for one of the premier preseason events in college baseball.

The College Baseball Showdown began in 2021 and became the Shriners Children’s Baseball Showdown in 2024, when the event expanded to three weekends. The event has included eventual national champions Mississippi State (2021) and Tennessee (2024) and numerous teams have started the season at the College Baseball Showdown and ended the year in Omaha at the College Baseball World Series.

Last year, the expanded College Baseball Showdown featured the eventual national champion, the eventual No. 1 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, the No. 5 pick and No. 8 pick and two more first round picks.

It even featured the 2024 College Baseball World Series runner-up and 2025 preseason No. 1 team, Texas A&M.

Yes, 2025’s three weeks of baseball at Globe Life Field has a lofty bar to surpass, but with nine ranked teams playing across the weekends, the fans can expect another star-studded and dramatic slate of baseball.

And where are those stars of 2025 now? Here’s a look at where those players are now.

Oregon State Baseball Star Travis Bazzana Was The No. 1 Pick In The MLB Draft

One of the best games of the 2024 College Baseball Showdown was Oregon State and Arkansas, where Hagen Smith put on a show. But the rest of the weekend Oregon State rolled behind Travis Bazzana, who used the first two weeks of the season to build momentum in his journey to the No. 1 pick.

Bazzana was taken No. 1 by the Cleveland Guardians and begins the 2025 season as the No. 24-ranked prospect by Baseball America and No. 10 by MLB Pipeline. He played in 21 games at High-A after being drafted.

Hagen Smith Was The SEC Pitcher Of The Year, And Second Pitcher Taken

Hagen Smith’s game against Oregon State was probably the greatest pitching performance in the history of the College Baseball Showdown. He struck out 17 batters, a Arkansas single-game record.

He never let up and wound up winning the SEC Pitcher of the Year honors and set a DI record for Ks per nine innings. He didn’t pitch after being drafted by the White Sox at No. 5 and begins the season as the No. 34-ranked prospect in baseball at MLB Pipeline and No. 40 at Baseball America.

Tennessee Baseball Was Loaded In 2024

Tennessee won the national championship and had eight players drafted later that year. That includes the No. 8 pick Christian Moore who was taken by the Los Angeles Angles.

Moore became one of College Baseball’s biggest breakout players and went on to lead Division I baseball with 111 hits. He even hit for the cycle in the College World Series. Here’s a look at the Vols stars:

  • Christian Moore: No. 79 ranked prospect at Baseball America and No. 68 at MLB. He finished the season at Double-A and could be in-line to debut early in 2025.
  • Blake Burke: The No. 34 pick in the draft was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers.
  • Billy Amick: The No. 60 pick in the draft was taken by the  Minnesota Twins.
  • Dylan Dreiling: The No. 65 pick in the draft was taken by the Texas Rangers
  • Drew Beam: The No. 76 in the draft was taken by the Kansas City Royals.
  • Kavares Tears: The No. 134 in the draft was taken by the San Diego Padres.
  • A.J. Causey: The 242 pick in the draft was taken by the Kansas City Royals.
  • Aaron Combs: The 228 pick in the draft was taken by the Chicago White Sox.

Braden Montgomery Has Already Been Traded

Texas A&M star Braden Montgomery played in the third weekend of the College Baseball Showdown and hammered a home run. He was the top transfer in the game and likely would have been taken in the top 10 if not for a serious injury in the Super Regionals.

Still, he was taken No. 12 overall by the Boston Red Sox.

He never even played in the minors for them, though.

Montgomery was one of the prospect pieces in the Red Sox trade for Garrett Crochet in December. Montgomery starts the season as the No. 55-ranked prospect in baseball and the No. 2 ranked prospect named “Montgomery” on the White Sox, who have also have Colson Montgomery (not related) at No. 39 at Baseball America. Braden is No. 66 at Baseball America.
