Columbia College basketball dominates in Harris Stowe double header

On Thursday, the Columbia College Cougars hosted a men and women’s double header against Harris Stowe State University Hornets.

Women’s basketball was up first. The Cougars took a commanding lead in the first few minutes of the first quarter. The game, however, was still close throughout the first half. 

The Hornets had a chance to tie the game with five seconds remaining in the first half, but the Cougars came up with a steal as the buzzer hit zero. The Cougars went into the half with a three point lead, 32-29.

In the second half, the Cougars extended their lead significantly. Mallory Shetley ended the game with two steals and 19 points. The Cougars dominated their first game of the day, 70-53. They move to 23-2 on the year.

The men’s basketball team followed suit and had a strong first half. Kai Steiman went four for four at three point range in the first half. 

The Cougars were taking tough shots and making them. Seth Larson made a late bucket in the first half. The Cougars took a commanding lead at half, 51-33.

Four of the Cougars scored ten plus points by the time of the final buzzer.

Collin Parker finished the game with 26 points, 1 block, and 8 rebounds. Kai Steiman finished with 17 points and two rebounds.

The Cougars blew out the Hornets, 95-75.

The women’s basketball team face Stephens College on Saturday. The men’s basketball team face Central Baptist College next Thursday.
