SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Former NBA two-time championship LA Lakers basketball player and coach Josh Powell stopped in Savannah for a local meet-and-greet and podcast recording, Wednesday.
His 21 Reasons to Give Foundation is partnering with the Savannah Impact Program and Building Bridges for a March Madness event at the Thompkins Center next month. The event is designed to target 21 to 35-year-olds who enjoy basketball but face life challenges.
“It gives young men and young women a chance to play a game that they love, have fun, all while having fun,” said Powell. “You’ll be able to do other things as well, which is where Building Bridges comes in. Because they are providing a lot of these resources and different outlets to help the community.”
Some of those community resources will help with education, job placement and mental health.
The entry fee will be $100 per team, and the team that wins the final championship will win the grand prize of $7500.
