Peter Woods arrived at Clemson as a highly touted five-star prospect, and while he has consistently drawn attention from opposing offenses, his statistical production has yet to fully match the hype. That could change in 2025, as 247Sports projects him as one of the sport’s emerging superstars.
Chris Hummer of 247Sports believes Woods has the potential to be one of the most dominant defensive linemen in the country, especially if he moves back inside.
“Peter Woods is already widely considered one of the sport’s top defensive linemen entering 2025,” Hummer said. “But he’s got a chance to emerge as a real force if he moves back inside next year.”
Last season, Woods played a significant amount of snaps on the edge as Clemson looked for more production at defensive end. However, after the Tigers landed Will Heldt (Purdue) and Jeremiah Alexander (Alabama) through the transfer portal, he is expected to return to defensive tackle, where he was at his best.
From the Pittsburgh game onward, Woods recorded 13 of his 20 pressures and steadily improved, finishing the season with 32 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks. His impact was particularly felt in Clemson’s ACC Championship win over SMU and the first-round playoff game against Texas, where he totaled six tackles, five stops, and nine pressures.
Pro Football Focus graded Woods highest when he played inside, giving him an 87.6 grade at defensive tackle compared to an 83.3 grade on the edge. His ability to collapse the pocket and command double teams makes him a critical piece of Clemson’s defensive front heading into next season.
With another year of development and a move back to his natural position, Woods is expected to be in the All-American conversation and a potential first-round NFL Draft pick in 2026.
