Men’s college basketball rankings: ACC teams in Coaches Poll, AP Top 25 on Feb. 24

Few teams throughout men’s college basketball this season have been as dominating as Duke has, perhaps a foreshadowing of what is to come in a few weeks when March Madness arrives.

Less than 48 hours after reaffirming that on the biggest stage that is Madison Square Garden, the Blue Devils were rewarded for their successes on Monday as they moved up to No. 2 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches and AP Top 25 polls.

In what was his debut at The Garden, Cooper Flagg led the Blue Devils to a 110-67 rout of Illinois in New York City with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists. With the win, Duke improved its record at The World’s Most Famous Arena to 42-18 and extended its win streak at The Garden to eight straight.

Duke wasn’t the only ACC team to rise in the national polls on Monday, as Clemson and Louisville both moved up into the top 20 of both polls.

Senior guard Jaeden Zackery stuffed the stat sheet in Clemson’s road win at SMU on Saturday, as the Wisconsin native finished with 19 points, seven assists, six rebounds and five steals while hitting a career-best five 3-pointers. With its win, Clemson tired its program record for most conference wins in a season at 14.

Led by Chucky Hepburn’s 29 points and five steals, Louisville went 1-0 in its lone game of the week against Florida State on Saturday. The Cardinals, who have now won five straight games, caused 14 turnovers on defense while going 30 for 34 (88.2%) at the free-throw line.

With just two weeks left to go until the ACC Tournament, the conference regular season race remains pretty close as Duke only leads Clemson and Louisville by just a game. ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi has four ACC teams projected to make March Madness in his update after Saturday’s games.
