Current college basketball coach believes Duke’s Cooper Flagg is ‘generational’

Cooper Flagg is the talk of the college basketball landscape. The 18-year-old is in the midst of a historic freshman campaign in Durham, drawing endless comparisons to all-time greats.

Saturday was another banner evening for Flagg. In Madison Square Garden on national television, Flagg was a two-way monster, helping to lead his Blue Devils to a 43 drubbing over a tournament-hopeful Illini squad.

After Flagg’s latest showcase, current UCLA head coach Mick Cronin, on the panel for Fox’s Primetime Hoops, showered the young phenom with endless praise and made some emphatic declarations.

“He’s the best player in the country,” Cronin said. “Cooper Flagg is generational. This kid’s got the makeup, as far as the drive, the off-the-court, and the mental. He’s a perennial All-Star in the NBA for many years.”

Flagg will undoubtedly be the top pick in June’s draft as teams determine how to increase their chances for the best shot to land the Duke’s forward services. It doesn’t require watching much game tape to realize he excels at everything.

Flagg is a de facto point guard who has proven to be an elite on-ball creator. he can operate at all three levels and does an impressive job varying his points of attack. The intensity defensively is special, and they could walk into the next level and instantly become one of the best perimeter clamps in the league.

The only potential detriment is a shaky spot-up jumper, but even that has improved rapidly over the last few months.

Like so few guys this century, Flagg is truly a “can’t miss” prospect. The fact other college coaches are going out of their way to shower the budding superstar with praise speaks volumes about where Flagg is as a player and his transcendent potential.
