In one of the most competitive men’s college basketball seasons, more big games among ranked teams across multiple conferences cause head-turning changes.
The biggest news from the beginning of last week was when No. 21 Mississippi State defeated No. 7 Texas A&M in a competitive matchup in the best overall conference in the sport.
Another shocking result in the SEC happened on Tuesday when No. 15 Mizzou basketball stunned No. 4 Alabama 110-98. To end the week, the Tigers would get upset themselves, losing to unranked Arkansas.
Kansas MBB Fall Out Of The Rankings
- The preseason No. 1 team, Kansas Jayhawks, is now out of the top 25 rankings after getting embarrassed last week against BYU.
- This is the first time Kansas basketball has not been ranked; the team had an 80-week streak of being placed in the top 25.
- Kansas will have the chance to reclaim its ranking as its final three out of four games are against ranked teams (Texas Tech, Houston and Arizona).
Duke And Florida Battle For No. 2 Spot
- Duke and Florida have been battling it out for the two spots for the last three weeks after the Blue Devils lost to Clemson,
- In that first week, the teams were tied for No. 3, as the Gators were coming off a win over No. 1 Auburn. Last week, Florida took over the second spot, but this week, Duke finally gets it back.
- Duke’s final four games will be on the road for three of them, with the only home game against Florida State. They will also finish the year on the road against Wake Forest and long-time rival North Carolina.
- The Florida Gators, on the other hand, have two home and two road games, including a home game against No. 12 Texas A&M and a road game against No. 6 Alabama.
Matchups Between Teams Inside Top Ten
- On Saturday, there were games featuring the No. 5-8 teams going against each other, with No. 8 Iowa State vs. No. 5 Houston and No. 6 Tennessee vs. Texas A&M.
- Houston basketball and Tennessee basketball both won, moving up in the rankings to the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively.
