Former Hillsboro High running back Eddie Hill, who went on to play at Memphis and in the NFL, died Sunday, the Miami Dolphins announced Monday. Hill was 67.

Hill, who played for the Dolphins from 1981 to 1984, had battled brain cancer for several years.

Hill, who also played defensive back at Hillsboro from 1972 to 1974, made the All-Nashville Interscholastic League Western Division second team as a sophomore. His junior season was interrupted by a broken collarbone, and his senior season was wiped out by a broken ankle.

He also played basketball and baseball, and ran track at Hillsboro.

After making a full recovery, Hill signed with Memphis State and rushed for at least 100 yards in four games. His best game came in 1978, when he rushed for 188 yards against Cincinnati.

Hill was selected in the second round of the 1979 NFL Draft as the 54th overall pick by the Los Angeles Rams. He rushed for a total of 234 yards and one touchdown in 23 games, with one start for the Rams before being traded to the Dolphins in 1981.

In four seasons in Miami, Hill rushed for 209 yards and one touchdown in 52 games, with three starts. He also had 171 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his NFL career.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
