One weekend can turn everything around in a baseball season. Kansas State’s outstanding performance in the second weekend of competition at the 2025 College Baseball Series stands as testament to this.
K-State made an emphatic statement during the three-day set at Globe Life Field, knocking off a pair of nationally ranked opponents — including a preseason favorite to contend for the College World Series — in addition to a Big 12 Conference counterpart.
Along with the Wildcats’ impressive showing, the second weekend of college baseball action at the Texas Rangers’ home offered plenty more early-season storylines to follow as the 2025 campaign unfolds. Check out the top five developments from the Feb. 21-23 docket in Arlington.
Kansas State Leaves Texas The Biggest Winner
Kansas State endured a tough opening to the 2025 season, dropping games to perennial College World Series contenders Coastal Carolina and North Carolina. However, the Wildcats rebounded in a big way — and left Globe Life Field looking like challengers for Omaha in their own right.
K-State opened its weekend at the College Baseball Series with a 3-2 win over top five-ranked Arkansas, setting the tone for the rest of the weekend. The Wildcats followed up with a 5-1 defeat over Michigan on Saturday, with the Wolverines coming in ranked No. 25 nationally in the BaseballAmerica poll, then capped the weekend dominating Big 12 foe TCU, 10-2.
Georgia State transfer Maximus Martin bookended the weekend with a double and run scored against Arkansas, then a sensational three-hit, three-RBI performance against TCU. Texas transfer Dee Kennedy drove in runs against both Arkansas and Michigan, while Columbia transfer Seth Dardar had a two-hit outing vs. Michigan and stole a base vs. TCU.
With the variety of newcomers showing up at the plate in Arlington, K-State has plenty of promise to keep building on moving forward — which continues in a big way immediately with No. 2-ranked LSU next up for the Wildcats.
Never count out the Cats.

K-State’s Pitching Staff Means Business
Along with the transfers stepping up offensively for the Wildcats at Globe Life Field, the other key development for K-State’s sweep was the dominance of its pitching.
Wildcat pitchers combined to allow five earned runs across the three games. The highlight came from Lincoln Sheffield in his start against TCU.
Sheffield allowed just five hits, walked only one and struck out eight in seven innings to cap the College Baseball Series. Friday starter Jacob Frost gave up only four hits and struck out six, while Blake Dean was remarkable coming out of the bullpen.
Dean kept Arkansas in check for 3 2/3 innings, during which the right-handed sophomore fanned five.

Arkansas Proved Its Front-Runner Status
Despite suffering its first loss of the season with the Friday loss to K-State, Arkansas rebounded effectively with wins over TCU and Michigan that showed the Razorbacks versatility.
Against the Horned Frogs, Arkansas needed to lean on its pitching staff with Hogs batters combining for just three hits. Zach Root’s 10 strikeouts and just two hits allowed over five innings helped set the tone, while Razorback relievers Landon Beidelschies and Christian Foutch kept TCU at bay for four innings in a 2-1 win.
Sunday’s win over Michigan then demonstrated the kind of offensive firepower Arkansas can summon. Wehiwa Aloy’s 4-for-4 performance to cap the Razorbacks weekend showcased the preseason All-American’s bat at its best. Kuhio Aloy was also solid at the dish against K-State and TCU, delivering run-scoring hits.
His pinch-hit RBI double vs. TCU provided all the scoring Arkansas got in the win. Having another Aloy in the lineup who can be called upon for clutch hits only makes the Razorbacks that much more dangerous going forward.

TCU Has Plenty to Build On Despite 1-2 Finish
TCU’s weekend at Globe Life Field may have ended with a burn-the-tape kind of game against Big 12 rival Kansas State, but the Horned Frogs otherwise had plenty of positives to fuel their chase for Omaha.
The pitching staff’s effort against top five-ranked Arkansas was especially impressive. Tommy LaPour took the loss, but most of six innings was untouchable. He retired 11 straight Razorbacks until the pivotal seventh inning.
In the win over Michigan, Sam Myers came through with a game-changing, two-run knock. Myers drove in three runs for weekend, a promising development for the 2024 Big 12 All-Freshman selection who has started his sophomore season slow.
Meanwhile, Isaac Cadena — who has enjoyed a fast start to 2025 — bopped his third home run of the campaign in the Horned Frogs’ defeat of Michigan.

Michigan Can Go Yard
With four outstanding teams all with NCAA Tournament potential converging on Globe Life Field, one was bound to have a forgettable weekend. Michigan ended up being that team, going winless in its three outings.
It wasn’t all bad for the Wolverines in Arlington, though. Three Michigan batters homered over the three games, with Mitch Voit going yard against TCU; and both Cole Caruso and Robert Hamchuck homering vs. Arkansas.
Voit’s homered three times already in 2025, while Caruso’s homered twice. Caruso also doubled against TCU. He’s hit for extra bases in four of his seven knocks early into Michigan’s season.
