Breaking down college baseball’s 90-pitch perfect game by Portland’s Ryan Rembisz

We’re just two weeks into the college baseball season and there’s already been a historic performance.

Portland’s Ryan Rembisz threw a nine-inning perfect game on Feb. 25 against Seattle U. It was just the 37th perfect game ever thrown in DI NCAA history and the 21st in a nine-inning game — plus, the first in program history. The incredible feat was done in just 90 pitches.

The senior left-hander struck out 12 batters, which was a career-high mark and the most by a Pilot pitcher this season. Rembisz faced 27 batters in the game, forcing nine groundouts and six flyouts through those 90 pitches.

What’s even cooler? It was the senior’s third start of his collegiate career and first of the season. He typically comes out of the bullpen.

A no-hitter is rare enough in baseball, but a 90-pitch perfect game with 12 strikeouts is pretty insane. It was the first perfect game in college baseball in nearly three years, since Maryland’s Ryan Ramsey in 2022 versus Northwestern.
