Auburn Baseball Blanks Ohio State 13-0 In College Baseball Series

The Auburn Tigers baseball team took on the Ohio State Buckeyes to start the final weekend of the College Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field. The game kicked off another three days of intense college baseball coming live to FloCollege, including top-ten ranked No. 9 Oregon State.

Auburn started their year with an 8-1 record and maintain a seven game win-streak coming into this afternoon’s game. The Tigers have outscored their opponents 73-27 during the run.

The Buckeyes were 1-5 going into the game with a lone win over No. 12 NC State, 8-3. Their most recent loss came from Alabama in Jacksonville, FL at the Jax College Baseball Classic. OSU started the game strong with a 10-0 lead after scoring three runs in the third and seven runs in the fourth inning. Alabama came roaring back and by the ninth inning, set themselves up for a walk-off three-run home run to win the game.

Ryan Hetzler Finished It For Auburn – Final

Ryan Hetzler took the mound to start the inning for the Tigers.

Paul Jr. pinch hit for Graveline and hit a line drive out to left field that Carter caught.

Eckelman hit a soft grounder down the first baseline that McMurray easily picked up and touched the bag.

Swing and a miss for Stephens and that will end it for this afternoon match to start the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series on FloCollege. Thanks for tuning in!

Samuel Dutton earned the win and an impressive nine strikeouts to make it a total of 23 this season over 16 innings pitched.

Ohio State Infield Steps Up – Top 7th

It’s been all Auburn this afternoon as the Tigers return to the batters box. Spencer Hill is now pitching for the Buckeyes and starts his inning with a pitch that hit Snow. Hill is a first-year transfer from UNC-Asheville.

Belyeu hit a fly ball out to center field where Lipsey made the catch.

Irish reached first base on a hit to second base that was a hard grounder that Scheppler grabbed impressively for the force out at second. 

On the next hit, McMurray hit a grounder to the shortstop who backhanded the collection and made an off-balance throw to first base just in time for the third and final out.

Dutton Is In Control – Bottom 6th

Lipsey hit a ground ball to Fabian who fielded the ball easily and got the out.

Simpson hit a fly out to right field. Scheppler pinch hit for Pettorini. Scheppler struck out swinging on a pitch that came in high and inside for the third out.

Auburn Makes It 13 – Top 6th

Irish opened the inning with a fly out to left field. McMurray followed that up with a fly out to right field that was caught by Freeman. 

Lange hit Fabian with a breaking ball on the toe.

Lange walked Terrell.

Rembert went up next—he hit a single to center field that brought in Fabian and got Terrell to third.

Fralick drilled the ball down the first baseline for a base hit and brought in Terrell. Freeman caught Bristol Carter’s hit out to right field to flip the field.

Dutton Adds Two More K’s – Bottom 5th

Dutton returned to the mound for the Tigers. Sal Mineo pinch hit for Giamarusti, who struck out swinging.

Carpenter struck out swinging as well. Dutton has been laying it on the Buckeyes today at Globe Life Field.

Bussey hit a fly out to right field that was easily caught for the final out.

Lange Takes Mound For OSU – Top 5th

Tannis Lange took the mound to start the inning for Ohio State. He’s a freshman left-handed pitcher out of Wisconsin who went to Waukesha South High School.

Fralick was the first batter he faced today. He hit a double down the left field line that stayed fair and bounced off the walls to give him enough time to get to second.

In a weird bounce off of a hit by Carter, the ball redirected towards Stephens’ face causing him to miss that put Fralick on third and Carter on first.

On the next at bat, a wild pitch by Lange gave Fralick the clearance to score and Carter a free base.

Snow struck out swinging for the first out of the inning.

Carter was caught out stealing at third.

Belyeu hit a fly out to center field that Bussey collected.

Dutton Earns His Sixth Strikeout – Bottom 4th

Graveline starts this offensive try for the Buckeyes but is struck out swinging off of a full count.

Hits are 10 for Auburn and 2 for Ohio State at this point.

Eckelman hit a high bouncing grounder out that Snow snagged out of the air and made the throw cleanly at first.

Three up, three down once again—Stephens struck out swinging for Dutton’s sixth.

Auburn Pours It On – Top 4th

Belyeu started the fourth inning with a nice hit down the right field line that got him a double. Ike Irish followed it up with a single up the middle to bring in Belyeu and tally a ninth run for the Tigers.

McMurray hit a single out past first base to put Irish in scoring position.

Fabian hit a grounder that hopped a foot ahead of Pettorini but he was able to make the play and touch the bag before completing the double play at first. Irish scored.

Terrell was walked by Kuzniewski for his second of the day. He immediately followed it up with a steal to get on second.

Lipsey made a catch on a deep fly ball from Rembert for the third out and to flip the field.

Tigers Hold Strong – Bottom 3rd

Dutton struck out Will Carpenter to start the inning.

Bussey hit a foul ball high that Snow caught near the perimeter of the field. Back to the top of the batting order for the Buckeyes, two outs.

Lipsey was hit by a pitch that bounced off of the elbow pad, advanced to first.

Ellis hit a single on the 0-2 count through the left side.

Pettorini struck out swinging with runners on first and second.

Ohio State Makes Quick Work – Top 3rd

Auburn returns to the batters box with a significant lead with freshman Kuzniewski on the mound. 

Fralick hit a fly ball out to center field. 

Carter hit a grounder out to shortstop.

Snow hit a fast grounder through the middle that snuck past Ellis to get on base.

Eckelman closely threw Snow out at second on a steal to take the Buckeyes off the field.

Three Up, Three Down – Bottom 2nd

Eckelman popped up a hit that Rembert caught. Stephens grounded out to Dutton who made the easy play at first.

Giamarusti bunted but Dutton was ready for it and made the play again for the third out.

Tigers Blow The Roof Off – Top 2nd

Erdmann returned to the mound to start the second inning. He walked Fabian to start.

Giamarusti raced to catch a fly ball that went foul off of Terrell’s bat. To his disappointment, he collided into the netting outside the spectator areas along the third baseline and dropped the ball.

Erdmann then walked Terrell, too.

Rembert hit a hard ball down the foul line, invoking a camera review by the umpires. It was called foul after a very brief review.

Erdmann walked Rembert, loading the bases.

Fralick hit a single into center field that brought in the first run for the Tigers. No outs.

Carter hit a foul fly out to right field that Lipsey caught. Lipsey tried to make the play at home but Fabian made it with plenty of time.

Rembert stole third after Erdmann’s first pitch to Snow.

Erdmann’s given up his fourth walk of the inning, putting Snow on base and filling the bases once again.

Erdmann was able to flip the script finally, throwing two strikes that Belyeu watched and then he swung at the third for Ohio State’s first K.

Erdmann walked Ike Irish and brought in Rembert for another Tigers run.

McMurray smashed a line drive out to right field that brought in 3 RBIs for the Tigers. It’s been all Auburn this inning. Two outs.

Fabian hit a double to through to center field that brought in McMurray to seal the deal for Erdmann. Ohio State made a pitching change and brought in freshman Gavin Kuzniewski out of Fishers HS in central Indiana.

Terrell hits in an RBI of his own with a nice hit over the shortstop and bring in Fabian.

Rembert struck out looking for the final out and to give Kuzniewski his first K of his college career.

Dutton Opens With Two K’s – Bottom 1st

Now, it’s Ohio State’s turn to step into the batter box for the first time today. Lipsey had the honors and ripped the ball for a base hit that bounced deep into right field.

Dutton earned his first strikeout of the day and 15th of the year, throwing a slider past Ellis who went down swinging.

Pettorini up next—he hit a bomb nearly to the warning track to right center field that Belyeu caught easily.

Graveline struck out after a few hits foul, Dutton’s count moves to two.

Auburn Bats Are Hot But OSU Holds – Top 1st

It’s time to get this third weekend straight of phenomenal college baseball in Texas started.

First pitch for Erdmann was a fastball down the middle for strike one, Snow took a half-swing over the ball.

Three pitches later, Snow hit a nice grounder past Pettorini for a single.

Back-to-back singles started the game for the Tigers with Belyeu hitting a single to left field.

Ohio State handled Ike Irish in his first at-bat, Pettorini collected his grounder, then made the double play in-time.

McMurray also hit a ground to the right side but was caught out on the play at first.

About The Starting Pitchers: Ohio State’s Erdmann vs Auburn’s Dutton

Sophomore Drew Erdmann out of Hudson, OH will be taking the mound for Ohio State today with 4.2 innings pitched with one strikeout in the scarlet and gray. The 6’4, 220 lb right hander played for the University of Cincinnati in his freshman season with 11 appearances on the mound and 16 strikeouts over 14 innings pitched.

Senior Samuel Dutton transferred to Auburn after spending his first three college baseball seasons at LSU. He’s pitched 10 innings for the Tigers so far this season and earned 14 strikeouts against 43 batters. Dutton helped them to their 11-0 win over Wright State a week ago, allowing 7 hits but no runs with just one walked batter.

Where Is The 2025 College Baseball Showdown?

The Shriners Children’s College Showdown and two-weekend Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota are taking place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and feature some of the top teams in the nation. 

The 2025 season marks the fifth consecutive year of college baseball at Globe Life Field – home of the world champion Texas Rangers – and the second straight year the action spans three weekends. 

When Is The College Baseball Showdown?

The first weekend of the festivities, the Shriners Children’s College Showdown, began Friday, Feb. 14 and ran through Feb. 16. 

The following two weeks of action, the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, were set for Feb. 21-23 and Feb. 28-March 2.

To keep the momentum going between the weekends, the series also includes four midweek games at Globe Life Field. Those contests are taking place Feb. 18, Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 5.
