UTRGV Baseball ranks 8th in NCAA RPI

The UTRGV baseball team is ranked 8th out of 307 NCAA Division I baseball teams in the initial rating percentage index (RPI) rankings released by the NCAA on Monday.

This is UTRGV’s highest-ever known ranking in the official NCAA RPI, which began in college baseball in 2013. The RPI will be updated daily for the rest of the season at NCAA.com.

Additionally, the Vaqueros are ranked 25th in 11.7 College Baseball’s week 3 mid-major power rankings.

UTRGV is off to a 7-2 start after sweeping defending Southland Conference Champion and preseason favorite Lamar over the weekend, outscoring Lamar 18-5. The Vaqueros upset Dallas Baptist, then ranked 20th and now 21st, 15-5 on Feb. 18, but perhaps their most impressive wins took place opening weekend, when UTRGV took two out of three from Southern Illinois, which is currently on a 7-game winning streak and ranked No. 1 in the RPI.

UTRGV’s strength of schedule ranks 30th in NCAA Division I.

The Vaqueros currently rank in the top 100 in nine statistical categories, including:
