March is arguably the most interesting month of the college baseball season.
A transition from out-of-conference affairs on neutral sites to conference play in front of a home crowd or in enemy territory, the month serves as an opportunity for teams to fully figure out their mantra before the plot thickens.
And for some programs, it bodes as a chance to see how they measure up against strong opponents.
Here are five college baseball series to follow in March:
Oregon vs. Southern California: Mar. 7-9
Unlike most conferences, the Big Ten starts conference play on Mar. 7. And what better way to kick it off than with two first-year members from out West with Oregon and Southern California?
Don’t get it twisted, the destination wasn’t the only reason this series was named. The series represents two of many freight trains on this list that are about to collide.
Freight No. 1: Oregon. The Ducks have already looked the part of a favorite to win the Big Ten, beating teams by at least five runs in 10 of their 11 wins. This includes a 35-1 demolition against Columbia on Mar. 1.
POWER 10: Tennessee is No. 1, Texas A&M drops out in college baseball’s Power 10
Goodness.
Freight No. 2: Southern Cal. The Trojans weren’t preseason nominees to win the conference like their opponent, but they have started their 2025 campaign off on a high note. Southern Cal are 9-3 with losses to Rice, UCLA and UC Santa Barbara.
Tennessee vs. Florida: Mar. 14-16
The reigning national champions have looked flawless so far, like the only thing that could stop them from going back-to-back is themselves.
Tennessee has eight players hitting over .300, backed by freshman catcher/infielder Levi Clark (.500) and junior infielder Gavin Kilen (.488), and a starting rotation that has a combined 0.9 ERA in 10 starts. Oh, and they won the Astros Foundation College Classic with ease.
2025 ASTROS FOUNDATION COLLEGE CLASSIC: Tennessee goes 3-0, wins 25th annual classic
Enter Florida.
The Gators were undefeated through 11 games and haven’t lost much of a step from last year’s MCWS semifinal appearance. Entering March, six players were hitting over .300 and the starting rotation posted a 2.14 ERA in nine starts.
Tennessee and Florida represent what’s to come in the SEC’s conference play this season — highly competitive matchups filled with talent and the scorching hot sun. There’s a chance that the SEC’s regular season champions could be one of these two teams, let alone be Men’s College World Series attendees.
This is a series one should circle on their calendars.
Clemson vs. Wake Forest: Mar. 21-23
The ACC has multiple teams that could cause a ruckus come postseason time. Clemson and Wake Forest are two of those disruptors.
The Tigers held their own in the Shriners Children’s College Showdown to kick off the season, winning two of three contests, and shredded through in-state rival South Carolina to start March on a high note. Clemson’s weekend rotation is headlined by the latest ACC Pitcher of the Week in left-hander Ethan Darden, who holds a 1.00 ERA and has given up just two runs in 17 innings.
Even though the Deacons experienced a slight hiccup with two straight losses against Maryland and Princeton on Mar. 1st and 2nd, there’s still a good reason why Wake Forest won’t be an easy out. The offense has two players batting over .400 in infielders Kade Lewis and Marek Houston, and like Clemson, have a starting pitcher that won conference Pitcher of the Week honors in right-hander Logan Lunceford.
Two ranked teams with sound rosters so far, prepare for a clash between arguably two of the best squads in the ACC.
Arizona vs. West Virginia: Mar. 21-23
Arizona and West Virginia entered the 2025 season with very different questions to answer.
No. 21 in D1Baseball’s preseason rankings and returning both the Pac-12 coach of the year in Chip Hale and top draft prospect in outfielder Brendan Summerhill, the Wildcats unquestionably joined the conversation for the next Big 12 champions. The Mountaineers, on the other hand, lost its tenured coach, top two position players and starting rotation. That’s a lot to restock.
These aren’t the same conversations being had in March 2025.
West Virginia is undefeated through 12 games, while Arizona is 7-4. Granted, the two teams’ strength of schedule have been different — the Wildcats have faced four ranked teams to the Mountaineers’ zero — but West Virginia’s unblemished record isn’t one to overlook.
Arizona has started to find its rhythm with back-to-back ranked wins in the Astros Foundation College Classic at the end of February, and West Virginia’s first true test will be against Oklahoma State on Mar. 14, which could give more insight on how this series will play out.
Needless to say, this is a high-quality Big 12 matchup.
Arkansas vs. Vanderbilt: Mar. 28-30
Tennessee and Florida was just the trailer for the movie that SEC conference play will put on this season.
Vanderbilt’s batting lineup includes strong bats throughout its lineup. Junior utility RJ Austin (.413) has batted lead off for the Commodores so far, while junior infielder Riley Nelson (.372) has bounced between the three and four holes. Senior utility Jacob Humphrey (.412) has held up the rear at the seven/eight spot.
And facing ranked opponents won’t be anything new to Vanderbilt by the time the Razorbacks come to town. They’ve already faced three ranked opponents entering March, and their first two conference series are against current top 25 teams Auburn and Texas A&M.
Arkansas has given up just 3.5 runs per game — 1.8 in the first six contests. Between a formidable pitching staff and lineup, the biggest name to know is sophomore infielder/outfielder Kuhio Aloy. A .556 batting average, 15 RBIs and five doubles in eight games, the BYU transfer is on a tear.

Both programs rarely field bad teams — they’ve been NCAA tournament staples throughout the 21st century. The debate lies in whether the team is good or great.
This series could make that argument more clear.
