Titans will travel to Santa Fe College Thursday

BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA — The Eastern Florida State College baseball team split with No. 13 Indian River State College Saturday in a doubleheader on the road.
The Titans lost the first game of the day 2-1 but came back with a huge fifth inning to win Game 2 11-1 in five innings.
Eastern Florida State College took the lead in the first inning of Game 1 as Gustavo Mendez hit an RBI double and held the lead until the fifth inning.
Starting pitcher Nathan Hook had one of his best outings of the season, allowing just two hits over four innings and struck out six.
In the fifth inning, Brett Patten was hit by a pitch and scored on Jake Weatherspoon’s single to tie the game.
It would remain tied until the bottom of the seventh inning when Patten walked and scored on a double down the line by Matty Davis. The walk-off gave the Pioneers the series win.
Mendez finished with two hits in the game.
Down 1-0 in the second game, the Titans would strike for two runs in the fourth inning as Jamel Vera stepped in with the bases loaded and hit a two-run single.
Up 2-1 in the fifth inning, the Titans sent 15 hitters to the plate and scored nine times to take an 11-1 lead and Brody Kelly had a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth to end the game.
Mendez drove in two runs while Bryce Jackson had two hits and drove in two runs. Ryan Cerrone also had two hits in the win.
Starter Brody Kelly tossed the complete game in a win, allowing one run on three hits and struck out five.
Eastern Florida State College is now 16-10 overall and 6-6 in the Citrus Conference. The Titans will travel to Santa Fe College for the start of a three-game series beginning Thursday on the road. The Titans will host a doubleheader on Saturday against the Saints beginning at noon at Bruce Bochy Field.
