2025 College Baseball: Oregon Jumps Into Top-10, Stanford Enters Top-25

The first month of the 2025 Division I college baseball season concluded this past weekend. 25. Southern Miss (-3)

UC Irvine fell out of the top-25, while Stanford jumped in.

Oregon moved into the top-10, bypassing in-state rival Oregon State after sweeping Big 10 rival USC this past weekend in Irvine, California.

The Ducks’ multi-headed offense continued to push the pace. Sophomore Maddox Molony notched five hits over the weekend, pushing his average to .423 on the weekend. Junior outfielder Mason Neville has nine home runs on the young year, two of which came this past weekend. Jacob Walsh, Carter Garate, and Dominic Hellman are all batting above .300 for the Ducks, as well.

As noted earlier, it was also the first weekend of in-conference play for much of the ACC. Among the notable matchups included Notre Dame/Wake Forest, Boston College/Virginia, and Stanford/North Carolina.

Arguably the most contested of the three was Stanford & North Carolina, which the Cardinal won after taking the rubber game 7-0 on March 9. Joey Volchko threw 5.1 scoreless and struck out six for Stanford to finish off the series victory in Chapel Hill.

Stanford’s pitching hasn’t been exceptional this season; staff ace Matt Scott walked 10 over his first 20 innings. The bats, however, have been a different story. Hyped freshman Rintaro Sasaki (.317 AVG) and Tatum Marsh (.350) have been great, while Brady Reynolds and Trevor Haskins notched five homers in the opening month.

UVA, meanwhile, continued its puzzling season. The Cavaliers lost two of three to unranked Boston College. Their lone win was 22-16 bloodbath on March 8.

Wake Forest swept Notre Dame, scoring 36 runs over the weekend. Kade Lewis picked up six more hits to raise his average to .441.
