MacKinnon Makes NHL History with 1,000th Career Point

Superstar forward Nathan MacKinnon earned his 1,000th point to become the 100th player in NHL history to do so. He is the fourth-fastest active player to hit the milestone in his 856th game, following Connor McDavid (659 GP), Sidney Crosby (757 GP) and Evgeni Malkin (848 GP).

The 29-year-old’s point against the Chicago Blackhawks puts him at 362 goals and 638 assists in his career at the 1K mark.

“For us, he leads by example because he does all the right things. He drags everyone else into it with him. Fortunate to play with him for almost his whole career … special to be a part of it. Privileged to be his teammate again.

“It’s just unbelievable, I’m super proud of him. He deserves it with all the work that he puts into it and how much he cares,” Erik Johnson said.

MacKinnon does not focus on his milestones but Johnson said the team wanted to celebrate him. The Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia native is dialed in to win games but hopefully will take a little time to appreciate his accomplishment.

“He continues to impress me. When I first came here, he was battling to try to hit 100 points. And he’s grown a lot as a player, as a leader, the consistency, the way he’s dangerous every time he touches the ice …,” head coach Jared Bednar said. “It’s a tough league, and he still finds a way every night to get on the board and make an impact on the offensive side, all while being a good defender and growing his defensive game too.”

MacKinnon earned his 100th point of the season against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. It is his third consecutive 100-plus-point season in his 12th NHL season.
