New Nebraska general manager ready to lead team into new era of college football

Nebraska has hired Pat Stewart as the team’s new general manager. Stewart comes to Nebraska after working as the director of pro personnel for the New England Patriots.

Stewart will lead the Huskers’ roster management and player acquisition, including high school and transfer portal recruiting, evaluation, and retention. In a statement, the new Husker praised Nebraska’s administration for their commitment to transitioning the program into a new era of college football that resembles a more professional model.

“There are few, if any, institutions as capable of transitioning to this new era of roster construction as Nebraska. That is a testament to Director of Athletics Troy Dannen, Coach Rhule and the rest of the administration for their commitment to continuing the build on the proud and storied legacy of Nebraska Football.”

Stewart previously worked in the scouting department for the Carolina Panthers and the Philadelphia Eagles. He also worked with Matt Rhule at Western Carolina and Temple. The new GM stated how happy he is to work with Matt Rhule again and that he couldn’t be more excited about joining the Nebraska football family.

“I’m honored to work with Coach again, as well as the staff he has assembled, and offer my experience in personnel as we build and maintain a roster that the Greatest Fans in College Football will be proud of. The energy and culture of the program has been evident in the short time I have been here, and this is an exciting time for my family and I to join the Nebraska Football Family.”

Stewart is replacing Sean Padden as the team’s GM. Padden now holds the title of assistant AD for Strategic Initiatives and will be involved in the salary cap, contract negotiations, and analytics.
