Former Alabama star quarterback has signed with marquee NFL team

Mac Jones made a name for himself as a standout quarterback during his time with the Alabama Crimson Tide. During the 2020 season, he threw for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns and led Alabama to the College Football Playoff National Championship over Ohio State, which greatly raised his profile across the football world.

He was the No. 15 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, and while he had a strong rookie year in which he made the Pro Bowl and led the Patriots to the playoffs, he has been unable to duplicate his production from that season.

After a disappointing year with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jones will now be a member of the San Francisco 49ers as a backup to Brock Purdy, an Iowa State product.

Alabama fans may feel disappointed that Jones will, barring an injury to Purdy, not be a QB1 in the NFL for the foreseeable future. On the other hand, he will be playing for an offensive wizard in Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan, which should serve him well moving forward.

Last season, he threw for 1,672 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions in 10 games and seven starts for Jacksonville. He had posted 3,801 passing yards and 22 passing touchdowns during that promising rookie season with New England.
