The 2025 college football season is five months away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t place your bets on Week 1 games.
Three top online sportsbooks have released a point spread and total for Alabama’s season opener against Florida State. They’ve posted lines for other noteworthy games in the opening weekend, such as Auburn at Baylor and Texas at Ohio State.
There will not be much movement in the lines through the spring and summer, so if you have an edge on the opening numbers, you can lay down some money well before the games kick-off.
Alabama vs. Florida State Week 1 odds
Sportsbook | Alabama at Florida State point spread | Over/Under |
---|---|---|
DraftKings Sportsbook | Alabama -9.5 | N/A |
FanDuel Sportsbook | Alabama -8.5 | 51.5 points |
Bet365 Sportsbook | Alabama -8.5 | 51.5 points |
There is big-time belief in Alabama for its 2025 season opener at Florida State on Aug. 30. Oddsmakers have opened the point spread at 8.5 or 9.5 points in favor of the Crimson Tide for the true road game in Tallahassee.
The second year of coach Kalen DeBoer’s era will begin with a new quarterback after Jalen Millroe declared for the NFL Draft. The next signal-caller could be Ty Simpson, Austin Mack, or 5-star freshman Keelon Russell. The job is likely Simpson’s to lose, and the offense should be in good hands with him under center.
Alabama’s defense should be dominant. The return of safeties Keon Sabb and Bray Hubbard, cornerbacks Domani Jackson and Zabien Brown and linebacker Deontae Jackson will give the Crimson Tide an excellent base to build on. They were in the top 10 nationally in points allowed last season. They should be better in 2025.
The defense alone should give Alabama a strong chance to win by double digits over Florida State. The Seminoles were terrible last season, so they have a long way to go before they are in the same class as Alabama.
Texas vs. Ohio State Week 1 odds
Sportsbook | Texas at Ohio State point spread | Over/Under |
---|---|---|
DraftKings Sportsbook | Ohio State -3 | N/A |
FanDuel Sportsbook | Ohio State -3.5 | 51.5 points |
Bet365 Sportsbook | Ohio State -3.5 | 51.5 points |
This may be the most anticipated game of the opening weekend.
Reigning national champion Ohio State will unveil a mostly new lineup against the team it defeated in the College Football Playoff semifinals last season. The Buckeyes will have a new to-be-determined quarterback, but he’ll have the luxury of throwing passes to wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.
Ohio State’s defense will have new players trying to prove themselves like the group that led the Buckeyes to a national title last season.
Texas will turn to Arch Manning at quarterback, and all eyes will be on the kid with the NFL Hall of Fame uncles. Many Longhorns fans wanted Manning to play instead of Quinn Ewers last season, and now they’ll get to see him as the unquestioned leader.
Based on the quarterback situation alone, it’s a good idea to take the Longhorns getting more than a field goal. This point spread is likely to get shorter as the game gets closer.
