Will Duke freshman Cooper Flagg play against UNC in ACC Tournament Semifinals?

When Cooper Flagg injured his ankle in the first half of the team’s game against Georgia Tech, it looked like the star freshman would be out for considerable time. At the very least, he’d be out for the rest of the ACC Tournament considering he couldn’t put weight on the ankle and was seen in a wheelchair being taken for x-rays.

But the All-American returned to the bench in the second half and was seen walking without assistance, and no treatment on the left ankle. He didn’t have any ice applied, no brace or wrap, nothing. While there was no official prognosis delivered after the game, all signs pointed to Jon Scheyer being overcautious with his start player to ensure his health in next week’s NCAA Tournament.

According to team sources on Friday afternoon, Flagg is still not ruled out for round three of the Duke-UNC rivalry game in the night slot and will be a gametime decision. The Player of the Year in the ACC was in attendance for shootaround on Friday morning without a noticeable limp, but there has been no definitive statement that he’ll be available when the opening tip is thrown at 7:00PM.

Flagg has yet to miss a game during his impressive freshman campaign, but was out for most of the first half in the last game between these two rivals, when his teammates held serve against the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill. His play in the second half, though, was pivotal to Duke coming out of enemy territory with the win and securing an ACC Regular Season Championship after sweeping UNC.
